Scott Walking Adventures offers walking and hiking holidays in Eastern Canada from Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland, to the Four Shores of Nova Scotia to name a few. International trips to Bermuda, Iceland and Ireland have evolved over the years due to guests’ requests. One can experience beaches, mountains, wildlife and many historical sites as they have the opportunity to “take it all in” at a slower pace, while being physically active, rather than on a tour bus. In the colder season, hiking trips are organized in Bermuda, but there is also snowshoeing in the Eastern Canada destinations.
Highlights:
The grandeur and beauty of the landscape in Eastern Canada, Ireland and Iceland is what makes the excursions complete. Imagine the awe-inspiring view of one of the longest and deepest fjords in the world at Saguenay Fjord in Quebec, Iceberg Alley in offshore Newfoundland, or experiencing the highest tides in the world at the Bay of Fundy in Nova Scotia. Cape Breton Island and the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia were voted as the #2 destination for travel by National Geographic Traveler Magazine in 2004. Ireland’s Kerry Way and Dingle Way boast wonderful scenery and history at every turn. In Iceland, Gullfoss Falls and the Great Geysir are sights to behold. Combine active-walking with these tremendous sights and the experience is unmatched.
Food and Accommodations:
Finding the perfect inn is an art, and with thirteen years of experience, Scott Walking Adventures knows where to look. Choosing accommodations is something they do with great care. It is not only important to find lodgings with amenities such as private bathrooms and comfortable beds; they also search for places with their own distinctive charm, interesting history, and with beautiful settings. Some of the accommodations are luxurious: the Gîte du Mont-Albert on the Gaspé Peninsula and the Keltic Lodge in Cape Breton. Others are charming, historic heritage inns and country chalets. Each is chosen to give a sense of the history and culture of the area. Traveling in small groups allows the groups to stay in some small family run inns, where exploring the character of each room is often an adventure in itself. The staff works to build and maintain a good rapport with the owners and managers of the accommodations, to ensure that all needs are met.
Fine cuisine is also very important. Appetite tempting fresh flavors of the region from excellent home-cooked meals to delicious gourmet cuisine are offered. The best the region has to offer in a range of settings and styles, from elegant dining rooms to cozy, family-run restaurants can be appreciated. Guides are skilled at making wonderful, healthy picnics that will keep walkers energetic throughout the day. With sensitivity to the dietary needs of guests, they make sure that they provide something scrumptious for everyone.
Experience, History and Culture:
The staff of Scott Walking Adventures works diligently to provide guests with a very positive impression of the regions visited. Often these impressions will come as a result of selecting the very best walking trails in the area. Sometimes they come from other opportunities and learning experiences over and above the walking experience, such as whale watching, iceberg viewing, tidal-bore river rafting (riding the tidal surge against the natural river's flow), historic tours, or just talking to a fishermen on a wharf.
Although most experiences are prearranged, the staff also takes advantage of what seems fun and available at the time as long as these activities are in addition to the walking or hiking on the itinerary. Some of these are Ceilidhs, (pronounced “kay-lay”, meaning Scottish kitchen party), a play, a local music concert, interesting local events or art exhibits. Scott Walking Adventures creates authentic experiences by utilizing the services, fresh produce, specialty products, and way of life or the local communities. The area is rich in culture, Gaelic, French-Acadian, Celtic influences abound. The business is accepted in the community as the residents feel they benefit from the visit. This support works to the advantage of guests and the local people. Scott Walking Adventures practices "no-trace" walking and hiking and is committed to the principles of ecotourism, sustaining the environment wherever and however possible.
